History
SGP was founded in 2012 and started its commercial operations on the 23rd of April 2015. SGP is a joint-venture company that is formed between Public Investment Fund (PIF) of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia and PSA International and Al Balagaa. SGP operates the first and second container terminals in King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam , located along along the Arabian Gulf coast of Saudi Arabia. Dammam is also the closest gateway port to the country’s economic center and capital city Riyadh that is connected by rail via Riyadh Dry Port.
Dammam Consolidation
On the 13th of April 2020, MAWANI and Saudi Global Ports signed a new 30-year Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) agreement for the Container Terminals in the King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam. The BOT agreement represents a major step toward achieving the strategic objectives and development plan of the Saudi Ports Authority. SGP will embark on a development and modernization program to transform King Abdulaziz Port into a mega container hub and increase the Port's capacity to an estimated annual handling capacity of 7.5 million Twenty-foot Equivalent Units when the planned expansion works are fully completed.

Direct negotiation between SGP (PIF & PSA) and Mawani to operate a second container terminal in King Abdulaziz Port.

2013

Laying down of foundation.

2014

Received QCs and RTGs for testing and training.

2015

Commercial Operations Started.

2016

Achieved VR 150 moves per hour.

2017

Purchased and deployed 8 additional RTGs to support Dammam - Riyadh Railway Operations.

2018

Handled 1 millionth TEUs of container.

2019

Achieved VR 207 moves per hour.

2020

Signed a new BOT agreement to operate both container terminals in King Abdulaziz Port.

2021

Handled 4 millionth TEUs of container.
